What’s Included in Your Pre-Diagnostic Screening
One of our assessors will meet with you online, for an in-depth clinical interview, usually lasting 2-hours, which will looks at:
- Developmental history – Your childhood and early life, including school experiences and any patterns present from a young age.
- Current concerns – What’s prompting you to seek an assessment, and how it’s affecting your day-to-day life.
- How ADHD traits may have presented for you – The specific ways ADHD traits, such as focus, organisation, or impulsivity, show up for you personally.
We use standardised assessment tools to explore your current traits of ADHD as part of this process.
Preparing For Your ADHD Assessment
Once you’ve sent in your enquiry or referral, a member of our team will contact you to discuss the assessment and book a date. You’ll then receive an email with everything you need to prepare.
If you can’t get access to the following, please speak to a member of the team before your assessment.
Background information –
We’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire covering your full history, medical history, mental health, and current concerns, along with two additional mental health questionnaires.
Supporting documents –
Please have any other professional reports ready, such as school reports, occupational therapy reports, or speech and language therapy reports, along with any other relevant documents.
Questions you may have –
You’ll have the chance to ask any questions before your assessment takes place.
What You’ll Receive
- You’ll receive a report outlining the outcome, the traits you’re presenting with, and recommendations for support, which is shared with you within 3 weeks of your assessment.
- You’ll be offered a follow-up appointment with our team to discuss anything you’re unsure of, along with signposting to further support resources.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from the pre-diagnostic screening?
This is a full, formal ADHD diagnostic assessment using standardised clinical tools, resulting in a report with your outcome and recommendations. The pre-diagnostic screening is an initial exploration of traits and does not provide a formal diagnosis.
How long does the whole process take?
Your report is shared with you within 3 weeks of your assessment. Get in touch for current timescales from referral to assessment date at assessments@portland.ac.uk.
What do I need to bring or prepare for my ADHD assessment?
GP records, and any relevant professional reports such as school, occupational therapy, or speech and language therapy reports. Please do not worry if you do not have access to these, we can discuss alternatives with you.
Is the assessment done in person or online?
Your assessor will meet with you online.
What happens after my assessment?
Your assessor prepares a report outlining your outcome and recommendations, shared with you within 3 weeks. You’ll then be offered a follow-up appointment to discuss the results and further support.
